Taboo lexis contains words that can be classed as offensive, to a person It can be something that is offensive towards a persons race, sexuality, gender age etc. Or it could just be swearing. 50% of males and 50% of females used taboo lexis in their conversations, which goes completely against Lakoff’s theory that more males will swear more than females, altogether males used more taboo by one word.

Altogether males used more taboo by one word. also, some of these taboo words are offensive- oriented and offensive to the opposite sex. Taboo lexis are mostly heard in common conversation rather than in print or broadcast due to public sensitivity and censorship. In broadcast, these words were either beeped out or cut by the editor. hope this help
