History Homework Help! PLEASE! answer in detail if possible :)?

One of the single most distinguishing features of American history is the enslavement of millions of Africans between the middle of the seventeenth century (1600s) and the end of the Civil War (1865). When the British began creating colonies in the New World at Jamestown in 1607, the Spanish, the Dutch, and the Portuguese had already begun the process of importing slaves to the New World. Eventually, the British would allow slavery in their colonies. At the time of the American Revolution, slavery was legal in every British colony in the New World. Once the United States was created, at some point in time after the American Revolution (maybe even some during the Revolution), states in the north began abolishing slavery. By the time the American Civil War began, slavery existed only in 15 southern states while states in the North had completely abolished the institution. States in the West like California and Oregon had never allowed slavery. There is one specific event that historians generally agree led to the abolition of slavery in the northern states. The question for you to answer in your essay is this: what one single event led directly to the abolition of slavery in the northern states where it had been legal? I am looking for one very specific event here. The American Revolution, for example, is not specific enough.

The Industrial Revolution. By utilizing machinery in the North, the need for cheap manpower was eliminated. The means of production became less labor intensive. Machines could make product faster and cheaper. You didn’t have to feed, house, and guard them. It was easier all around. Because the North was more industrialized, they produced the finished products, and left growing the raw materials to the South. This means they didn’t need the slaves, but the South still did.
