Christians, I have a question about evolution/creationism for YOU!?

What level of importance do the verses pertaining to the instantaneous (or six day) creation of the earth, its organisms, people, etc... are to you. And can you direct me to some scholarly sources that express the view point of your christian community when it comes to evolution/creation and the creation verses in the book of Genesis. I'm writing a purely neutral and scholarly essay about evolution and Christianity and its rather difficult to stay neutral (i come from a science background). I just needs some arguments justifying creationism. I do not require scientific arguments (we all know creation science is a dud) but some social, historical and psychological justifications of creation as outlined in Genesis.

Uh huh…All right, I will tell you what the Bible actually says, and see if you are open-minded enough to understand.Genesis 2:3–And God proceeded to bless the seventh day and make it sacred, because on it he HAS BEEN RESTING from all his work that God has created for the purpose of making.(Capitals mine to show the important part of the scripture)Notice that Moses used the past participle form of the verb “rest.” The past participle conjunction of a verb shows an action that has begun in the past but continues now and is likely to continue into the future. If, for example, Sara has been swimming, it means she began swimming in the past and is still swimming now. Well, Moses writes that God began resting in the past and is still resting in his time, about 3,000 years later. This can be further confirmed by writings from the Apostle Paul.Hebrews 4:1-5–Therefore, since a promise is left of entering into his rest, let us fear that sometime someone of YOU may seem to have fallen short of it. 2) For we have had the good news declared to us also, even as they also had; but the word which was heard did not benefit them, because they were not united by faith with those who did hear. 3) For we who have exercised faith do enter into the rest, just as he has said: “So I swore in my anger, ‘They shall not enter into my rest,’” although his works were finished from the founding of the world. 4) For in one place he has said of the seventh day as follows: “And God rested on the seventh day from all his works,” 5) and again in this place: “They shall not enter into my rest.”Notice that Paul says that it is still possible to enter into God’s rest in his time, now a little over 4,000 years after God first began resting. And Paul’s writings show that God is still resting in our time, over 6,000 years later. This means that God’s rest day is going on even now, and will continue until the end of Satan’s world system (Armageddon arrives).Obviously this means that the 7th “day” of rest is not a 24-hour period, but simply refers to a long period of time. Logic says that the other 6 days must also not be 24-hour periods, but rather 6 long periods of time. The Bible does not say that the universe was created in 6 24-hour periods with a 7th 24-hour period of rest; it simply says that the universe was created in 6 major time periods.Creation science is not a dud, it begins from a misunderstanding of the scripture. It assumes that the Bible says that the universe is created in 6 literal days, but that is not what the Bible says. If creation science began from what the Bible actually says, creation science would be proven. All the more so since LEGITIMATE science, meaning science that follows its own rules and the scientific method, long ago disproved evolution. So if you are willing to put down what the Bible actually says, you can legitimately write an article that tells the truth–evolution science has been proven false by science itself, and the Bible is correct.

Compared to “Jesus saves”, they are not very important to me. But I do believe in a six day creation.

Dear K,…..” We all know creation science is a dud “……Interesting statement; are you intending to make that the title of your scholarly essay ?And just which WE are you referring to ?Your “Neutral”, does not sound very neutral to me and nor will it to any Tutor marking your work. I know what score I would give it _Good luck with that, you are going to need it !

  4. psychoanalyst says:

There are no scientific reasons for creation – it’s a scientific impossibility, full stop. There’s plenty of pseudo science out there, it’s meaningless rubbish and total hocus pocus – just read or listen to anything by Dr Grady McMurtry, total and complete nonsense. No-one even knows how he came about his doctorate for a start.

  5. cob says:

There is nothing wrong with a science background. I have one and will not give it up.There is no conflict between true science and the literal interpretation of Genesis 1 and 2. The popular, old earth evolutionary theory is still a theory even though most people insist it is now a fact. If you are intellectually honest and a true scientist, you will not follow that crowd.I believe the process that we perceive as evolution could have easily taken place in a few hours. I will not elaborate but it is food for thought, that is, if you can……So there are your arguments: A. Long-term evolutionary theory is just that. B. The evidences we see to support the old earth could have been developed within a few hours. Oh, and C. 30% of all valid, scientific observations support a 10,000 year old earth! Here is one scholarly source. You will have to dig for the references if you need them. It is somewhat apologetic in nature on the face.

  6. Heliconiidae says:

I come from a science background, too. However, I think the verses regarding the six day creation event are easily reconcilable with scientific discovery, if we understand these key points:1 – Time is relative. The Bible says this in several places (1000 years is as a day, and a day is as 1000 years). Einstein proved this in 1923. 2 – The speed of time’s passage varies based upon the gravity where it is measured, the speed of an observer, or the expansion of space. This last one is important, and it’s independent of local variations. As space expands, time passes more quickly; this ratio of expansion to passage is known as the time dilation factor, and it is a universal constant.3 – Space itself expands. It’s not merely the objects in space that get further apart, but the very fabric of spacetime that is expanding. Again, this is part of Einstein’s discovery of relativity.4 – As light travels through expanding space, its wavelength changes. Using the light left over from the Big Bang, it is possible to calculate the amount of expansion of space that the light has traveled through. By doing this, we can then get an age of the light left over from the Big Bang, and calculate how long ago the Big Bang occurred.5 – Our universe, as it appears from where we live, is about 14.5 billion years old. Using the cosmic background radiation to measure the expansion of space and then using this to calculate an age of the light coming from the Big Bang, we can show that the light is just six days old. Knowing these five facts, it’s very easy to reconcile the scientific view with the Biblical one. You can find all of these calculations and a much more detailed explanation in the very interesting book “The Science of God,” by Gerald Schroeder. Schroeder is an MIT astrophysicist, and is well credentialed. I don’t always agree with his viewpoints, but the book is definitely worth a read for anyone who wants to understand how the two different versions of universal origins are easily reconciled. (Which, ultimately, means that he’s hated by both fundamentalists and atheists alike.)=Doesn’t make sense?!?!? If science is not comprehensible, who is at fault? The science? Or the reader? Pick up the book. If you’re a lover of science, you’ll be able to understand it. It’s not written at an 8th grade reading level, but it’s not completely incomprehensible. You asked for a way to justify belief in Creationism, and I’ve essentially given you an A on your paper. Science is NOT biased. As scientists, we are to investigate the facts, present them without bias, and then go where the truth leads. My explanation does not prove Creationism, but it justifies why scientifically-minded people (and Schroeder is far more educated on the subject that both of us put together) can accept BOTH propositions.

  8. gyrfalcons says:

You have completely missed the point haven’t you?Like so many.God could have created all things, up and running as it were in an instant. Surely that is obvious? So why didn’t He?Surely the answer is also obvious and yet so many, oh so many miss it.This Evolution/Creation argument is so sterile and so off the point. Such a red herring, and for the obvious reason – to avoid the evidence for the Resurrection which is overwhelming and verifiable.God deliberately chose the order and manner of Creation to illustrate spiritual truth. The events were certainly literal but the order and manner deliberatey chosen to portray spiritual truth. All the way through the Bible, especially in the Old Testament physical things are used to illustrate spiritual things. Since spiritual things are unseen and we are separated from God because of sin then it is surely obvious they must be illustrated through physical things and actions?Once this simple truth is grasped then all becomes clear. So why have you not been able to see that? The problem is your sin. What can be done about that? Now Mr Clever and Sophisticated with all your scholarly research and erudition, and pointedly “neutral” bias — do you believe God or not?Notice Mr Clever Cloggs, the question is not do you believe in God, but do you believe God. With all your learning did you notice that? And do you understand what that means? The question is for YOU.If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son. He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. So do you still want to make God a liar? Can you possibly see the absurdity of your pride?Edit : The question was not , do you believe in God, but do you believe God? Yet still you missed that even though it was painfully drawn out for you.Evolution is not at all possible and is simply a device to deny God and to deny sin. Evolution depends upon death whereas God reveals death came by sin. They are blatantly head to head.Your much learning is clearly of little use to you in these matters and especially if you cannot take notice of the things that are actually said.
