Essay help? tips on how to improve?

can u me improve my essay? i'm in 8th grade by the way and this about a book i read called a step from heaven... the point is to convince my teacher if this book should b kept on the summer reading list for next years 8th gradersYoung Ju was a girl who had a life filled with pain, suffering, and little confidence. A Step from Heaven, by An Na, tells the story of a young girl who immigrates to America from Korea with her family. Her life is suppose to be marvelous and insure a life of prosperity and happiness. However, instead, moving to America turns her life upside down as her family finds out that the American dream is harder to achieve than they thought. As Young Ju begins to get the gist of how life is in America, her family struggles with money issues, and goes downhill as a new baby brings more expenses. As her father stresses over his many jobs and his difficult life, he takes out his anger by heavily drinking, and by verbally and physically abusing Young Ju and her mother. I believe that the book A Step from Heaven should stay on the next years 8th grade summer reading list.

Hey!I edited it, and I hope you like it! I’m in 10th grade so it should be better, lol. Young Ju was a girl who lead a life filled with pain, suffering, and little confidence. A Step from Heaven, by An Na, tells the story of a young girl who immigrates to America from Korea with her family. Her life is supposed to be marvelous and insure a life of prosperity and happiness. Instead, moving to America turns her life upside down as her family finds out that the American dream is harder to achieve than they thought. Just as Young Ju begins to understand more of the American culture her family begins to struggle with money issues. Everything they had worked for untill that point came crashing around their ears as a simple expence, such as a new baby, was added into their fragile income structure. As her father stresses over his many jobs and his difficult life, he takes out his anger by heavily drinking, and by verbally and physically abusing Young Ju and her mother. I believe that the book A Step from Heaven should stay on the next years 8th grade summer reading list because it shines a light on how people have more important struggles other than what pair of shoes they should buy or if they win their next soccer game. It shows the importance of appreciating everything you have and valueing (check spelling for this word, lol) it immensly.Good Luck!

If the point of the essay is to argue that it should be kept, you don’t even address that. WHY should it be kept? You’ve summarized the book, but from what you said it seems like defending the book is the point of the essay.
