What literary piece should I pick for English class?

For English class, we simply have to pick a novel that is established in the literary world in order to write an essay on it. i'm having trouble because I'm not exactly thrilled with novels like that, and I want a novel to fit my genre. I normally enjoy books that have a lot of murder, blood, and sex. More into the slasher novel than anything. What established literary work could I read, be interested in, and not be extremely bored to?Cannot use Thomas Harris or Dan Brown novels

You could try The Monk by Matthew Gregory Lewis, a Gothic novel published in 1796. It certainly has lots of gore and sex, murder, rape, torture, etc. Criticized as horrible and blasphemous from the start, it was still acknowledged as a work of genius.
