I am writing an essay on the role, power, unjust treatment of women, etc using tess of the durbervilles as my primary source. I need 4 secondary sources. i am using a doll's house and i stand here ironing. I need two more, any recomendations?

    I am not sure why you consider ironing to be particularly oppressive. Many women in Tess’s day would have been delighted to have been at home doing their ironing rather than slaving away in factories or sweatshops or in domestic service as many poor women had to.And chastitiy belts (mentioned by a comment above) were NOT a feature of 19th-century life.Tess certainly has a bad time of it, but consider also that men can have a rough time sometimes as well. Why not compare Tess for example with another Hardy heroine, Bathsheba Everdene, who plays havoc with the men around her? One of her suitors ends up dead, and another one sentenced to life imprisonment.
