Hi,The easiest way (if permissable) is to get hold of a Fahrenheit thermometer and recalibrate it to read in centigrade (nowadays call celsius)This shouldn’t present too much difficulty. Where boiling point is (212 degrees F) this would read 100 degrees C. Freezing point (32 degrees F) would read 0 degrees C.If your thermometer goes down that far minus 40 degrees is exactly the same in Fahrenheit and Celsius (certainly a good place to start.)There is a formula for calculating degrees F to degrees C (and vice versa) If you can’t find this please feel free to e-mail me and I’ll be happy to send it to you by return.Measuring the total length of your scale and printing out to size on self-adhesive paper, should solve the problem of the reading of the scale.Hope that helps.BobSpain

build a thermometer(you need a glass tube with a bulb, you know what it looks like, fill the tube with some alcohol or mercury, then sealed under vacuum)put the glass tube in ice water, mark the height, it is the freezing point of water at zero degree celcius.put the glass tube in boiling water, mark the height, it is the boiling point of water at 100 degree celcius.now you have 2 marks, 0 and 100. use a ruler to measure the length difference. divide it by 10. starting from the mark at 0, add that distance and make a mark on the glass, it will be 10 degree celcius. do another one from 10, it will be 20 degree celcius, keep going till 90. Now you have marks for 0, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 … 100.Now measure the difference in length between 0 and 10, then divide by 10. starting at 0 add that distance and make a mark on the glass, it will be 1 degree celcius, do it again, it will be 2 degree celcius, until you finish 0-10, then do 11-20 repeat till you have all 100 marks. that’s your thermometer.
